If you have watched any of these Olympic games, you may have notice tape showing up on many of these elite athletes.
Keri Walsh, an Olympic beach volleyball player, has been wearing an interesting configuration of tape on her shoulder throughout the games. What is it? It is Kinesio Tape, a specific tape used by practitioners following the Kinesio Taping Method. The original Kinesio Taping technique was developed 1973 by a Japanese chiropractor, Dr. Kenso Kase. In the United States, Kinesio Taping practitioners have developed their skills both by learning in classroom settings and practical application. The taping method is a systemic application of one or several layers with each layer having a specific function. The practitioner first evaluates the patient and determines which muscles are involved and initiates treatment to those muscles. Kinesio Tape is comprised of a ureter polymer elastic strand wrapped by 100% cotton fibers. The latex-free adhesive is 100% acrylic and heat activated. The corrective tape is waterproof and can be worn for 3 to 5 days. Trainers and physicians working with Olympians and other top athletes have been seeing the benefits of Kinesio Tape for several years.

Dr. Brown has been using Kinesio Tape in his practice since 2003. Brown works on international athletes to weekend warriors and uses the tape on a regular basis.
Muscle strains and injury rehabilitation are the areas where he sees the most benefit from using Kinesio tape. Ms. G. Waldrick saw Dr. Brown last month for a hamstring strain she incurred while playing kickball. She received therapy, some chiropractic adjustments and Kinesio Tape. Ms Waldrick was elated with the results and is back playing kickball. "That tape is miracle tape, I couldn't believe the difference is made."
Dr. Brown received advanced training in the practical application of the Kinesio Taping Method. "Kinesio Tape can help in a variety of ways depending on the application method.
Mechanical, functional and lymphatic correction can all be attained using various taping techniques" said Brown. "I have had several patients calling to tell me they have seen 'my tape' at the Olympics."

Summer is half way over and it is that time of year again. Pinellas County schools start their 2008-2009 school year on August 19th. Besides paper, pencils and backpacks, many students need physical evaluations before starting or returning to school.
According to the Pinellas County Schools Policy Manual a physical,
signed and dated by a licensed practitioner is required within one year prior to enrollment for any student initially entering a Pinellas County School. Current Physicals are required for those students returning to a Pinellas County public school from outside the county, or from a local private school.
Student Athletes are required to have a FHSAA physical evaluation yearly which is valid for one year from the date it was
performed. The FHSAA physical evaluation can also be used for the normal school physical requirement in Pinellas County.
We are now making appointments for student physicals. Call (727) 518-1967 to book an appointment. The fee for a student physical is always just $25 and we have the forms you need on hand.
